Commercial Delivery Rollout Completed


    PHILADELPHIA--July 31, 1998--Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack , the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, announced that it has completed the rollout of its commercial delivery program.
    As a result of systems enhancements, the rollout of the program was completed six months ahead of the original schedule.
    At the present time, 602 of the Company's 723 stores, or 83%, are participating in the commercial delivery program. Although a significant percentage of the stores in the program are still in the early stages of their sales ramp-up, average weekly delivery sales per store reached a new high by exceeding $6,000 during the week ending Saturday, July 25, 1998.
    Pep Boys' CEO, Mitchell G. Leibovitz, made the following comments:
    "Thanks to a terrific team effort, we completed the rollout of our commercial delivery program well in advance of our initial expectation. With the rollout behind us, we are focusing our attention on achieving our sales objectives by satisfying the needs of our existing customers at the same time that we continue to expand our commercial customer base.
