Superior Industries International Resumes Volume Shipments of Aluminum Wheels for General Motor's New GMT800 Program; Shipments Under Other GM Programs Also are Ramping Up
VAN NUYS, Calif.--July 30, 1998--Superior Industries International Inc. Thursday announced that it is resuming volume production and shipments of aluminum road wheels to General Motors for GM's new GMT800 full-size light-truck program.
Superior is the principal wheel supplier for the GMT800.
GM also has alerted Superior to anticipate a quick ramp-up in production of additional vehicles, for which Superior provides wheels, including Suburban, Tahoe/Yukon, Oldsmobile Intrigue and Cadillac DeVille.
"GM is back in business. We are recalling all of our employees who were temporarily laid off as a result of the UAW strike, and we are resuming full-volume production immediately. The GMT800 is widely considered to be GM's most important vehicle launch in many years. Superior is proud to be a principal supplier to this and other GM programs," a Superior spokesman said.
Superior supplies aluminum wheels to Ford, General Motors, Chrysler de Mexico, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi and Jaguar, as well as various Japanese auto manufacturers including Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and Isuzu. The company is also a leading manufacturer of accessory products for the national automotive aftermarket.
