UAW Announces Outcome of Flint Ratification Votes
DETROIT, July 29 -- UAW Vice President Richard Shoemaker, who
directs the union's General Motors Department, and Cal Rapson, Director of UAW
Region 1-C, announced today that UAW members at Local 659 and Local 651 in
Flint, Michigan have ratified their local union settlements. The margin of
approval at Local 659 was 90 percent, at Local 651 it was by 76 percent.
"The approval of the local union settlements by union members at Flint
Metal Fab and Dephi East indicate that our members are satisfied that the
UAW's bargaining teams have successfully addressed the issues that concerned
them," said Shoemaker.
"We are pleased that these strikes are now over and that our members in
Flint can return to work knowing that they have prevailed in their struggle to
defend their local union agreements and the commitments made to them by the
corporation," stated Rapson.
