3M Automotive Garners Two 'Quest for Excellence' Awards in First Annual Survey Of Automotive Industries' Readership
DETROIT, July 28 -- The results of a survey of Automotive
Industries magazine readers published in the July issue has netted two "Quest
for Excellence" awards for 3M Automotive.
The readership study, tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, asked each
respondent to rate automotive suppliers that they have done business with,
either currently or in the past, in five different areas: quality, price,
service, delivery and innovation. A total of 19 supplier categories were
judged, including "Fasteners & Adhesives" and "Seals/Gaskets & Packings" for
which 3M Automotive was recognized as among "the best of the best."
In the group of five companies chosen by readers as preferred "Fastener &
Adhesive suppliers," 3M Automotive ranked highest in both the quality and
innovation categories. These products include 3M(TM) Structural Bonding
Products, which are used in applications such as bonding metals, bonding rear
view mirror buttons to windshields and sealing roof ditch moldings.
Additional products include 3M(TM) Acrylic Foam Tapes, used to adhere body
side moldings, cladding and weatherstrip.
The three companies chosen by readers as preferred suppliers of
"Seals/Gaskets/Packing Materials" included Dyneon, a 3M-Hoechst joint venture
formed in 1996. Dyneon was ranked number one by respondents in the quality
and innovation categories. Dyneon is a leading manufacturer of
Fluroroelastomer materials, used to construct critical seals, hoses, gaskets,
o-rings and other sealing components designed to operate in the automotive
engine, transmission, brake system, cooling system and other high-
temperature/volatile environments.
