ESD's Advanced Coatings and Advanced Composites Co-Locate With IBEC'98
28 July 1998
ESD's Advanced Coatings and Advanced Composites Co-Locate With IBEC'98 to Offer World Premier ConferencesDETROIT, July 28 -- ESD's Advanced Coatings Technology Conference (ACT'98), ESD's Advanced Composites Conference and Exposition (ACCE'98), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's Autofact'98 (co-sponsored by SAE), will be co-located with IBEC'98 to bring together the greatest possible exposure to industry leaders in cross-markets, displaying the best in class and leading edge technology and advanced products in body design. The 7th Annual ACT will be held September 28-29 at Cobo Center in Detroit. The purpose of the conference is to promote and maintain individual technology competence from basic techniques through state-of-the-art technologies within the coatings arena. ACT'98 brings presentations on paint ingredients, analysis and durability with a special emphasis on paint for plastics. Information on applications, environmental manufacturing, testing and chemistry/formulation areas will be included in the tutorial and technical sessions. A tutorial is offered on Monday afternoon, September 28, titled, "Best Practices Tutorial: Automotive Phosphating, Technology and Paint Defect Analysis." This tutorial will cover the topics of substrates and soils; phosphate/E-coat compatibility; pre-cleaning, metal highlighting and special purpose applications; cleaning and rinsing; surface conditioning; phosphating; post treatment and DI water rinsing; general process maintenance; process operator responsibilities and paint defect analysis. The Best Practices Tutorial is being presented by Henkel Surface Technologies. ACT'98 attendees will share in a luncheon with the attendees of the 13th Annual Advanced Composites Conference and Exposition featuring Harold Krivan of J.D. Power and Associates as the keynote speaker. The l3th Annual ACCE will be held September 28-29 at Cobo Center in Detroit. The mission of ACCE'98 is to provide a forum for the exchange of information, focusing on polymeric composites for transportation. The technical scope will include fundamental, state-of-the-art, and transferred technologies. ACCE'98 features three tracks on Design, Manufacturing and Materials and includes 10 sessions within the three tracks. The plenary session will feature Brandt Goldsworthy, III of W.B. Goldsworthy & Associates on Tuesday, September 29. The World Premier International Body Engineering Conference and Exposition (IBEC) will be held September 29-October 1 at Cobo Center in Detroit and is co-organized by ESD and SAE. The conference theme is "Leading Change Beyond 2000." This ESD/SAE partnership brings a conference featuring eight tracks -- Safety and Environmental Systems, Body Manufacturing and Assembly, Advanced Manufacturing Process, Advanced Body Design and Engineering, Automotive Body Materials, Body Painting, Glass & Glazing and Automotive Interior Systems. Several tours are being offered in conjunction with IBEC'98, including the Warren Truck Plant, where the Dodge Dakota and Dodge Ram are built; the Detroit Hamtramck Assembly GM Mid-Luxury Car, where the Cadillac is produced; the Automotive Hall of Fame, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village; Focus: HOPE and the Chrysler Technical Center which will include NVH, 3/8 scale wind tunnel, thermal testing, EMC and more. Final programs for the ACT'98 and ACCE'98 conferences are currently available.
