Harris Semiconductor Announces the Formation of Power Management Product Line

    MELBOURNE, Fla.--July 27, 1998--

New Product Line within Harris' Power Business to Develop
Power System Architectures for the Computing, Automotive
    and Audio Markets

Harris Semiconductor announced today the formation of a new product line within its Power Business to address power management opportunities. The Power Management product line, headed by Vice President George Gidzinski, will develop power system architectures and provide a portfolio of high-value products for computing, automotive and Class D audio applications.
"Harris is uniquely positioned to deliver power system architectures for customers that demand a turnkey solution," said Greg Williams, Vice President and General Manager of Harris Semiconductor's Power Business. "George and his power management team have already made huge inroads in the PC market and we see significant growth potential by developing power systems for next-generation computing, automotive and audio products."
The new power management product line combines systems-level expertise with a unique portfolio of intelligent power and discrete power products in a voltage range of 1-200 volts. Harris' power management portfolio includes its popular HIP6000 series of DC/DC converters, hot plug ICs, load control ICs, and low-voltage MOSFETs for a broad range of applications. In addition, Harris provides design expertise and complete reference designs for high-efficiency Class D audio amplifiers.
In the past two years, Harris has added capacity by bringing the world's first eight-inch power MOS fab on line, and has developed new processes and introduced several new families of products to address power management applications. In February, Asustek, Taiwan's leading motherboard manufacturer, named Harris its 1997 Vendor of the Year. Harris provides Asustek with critical power ICs, low-voltage MOSFETs and technical support for its PC motherboards.
The Power Management product line complements the company's Industrial Power product line announced earlier this month. Over the past two years, Harris has added to its power capacity by bringing the world's first eight-inch power MOS fab on line in Mountaintop Pennsylvania, developed new processes and introduced several new families of products to address power system architectures.
Harris Corporation's Semiconductor sector manufactures discrete semiconductors and integrated circuits and focuses research and development efforts on innovative new products for the communications and power markets. Harris Corporation , with worldwide sales of more than $3.8 billion, is an international communications and electronics company that provides a wide range of products and services such as wireless and personal communications, digital television (HDTV), health care information, multimedia communications, automotive electronics, transportation, business information, defense communications and information, and Lanier office products.
