DuPont Automotive Announces Key Management Appointments; Executives Charged to Drive the Company Into the Next MillenniumTROY, Mich., July 27 -- John R. "Jack" Lewis has been named vice president - DuPont Automotive OEM Finishes with primary responsibility for automobile company interaction. Simultaneously, J. Erik Fyrwald has been appointed vice president - DuPont Automotive Engineering Materials, primarily responsible for relations with automotive supplier companies and for the balance of the company's broad materials portfolio, according to Louis F. Savelli, president of DuPont Automotive. "Restructuring our senior executive staff expedites our decision-making process to better meet the dynamic and rapidly changing needs of the automotive industry," said Savelli. "In addition, both executives possess a great deal of international business experience, which reflects the global nature of our customer base." Lewis, who was worldwide director of DuPont Automotive Finishes since 1995, maintains primary responsibility for interaction with automotive companies and is responsible for all aspects of the DuPont finishes business serving automakers and automotive suppliers worldwide. In his 30-year-career with DuPont, Lewis has held a number of prominent product marketing and business management positions. He was managing director of DuPont Automotive Coatings, headquartered in Bonn, Germany, from 1988 to 1991 before being named director of Engineering Materials for DuPont Automotive, a position he held until 1995. Fyrwald, director of DuPont Automotive Engineering Materials since 1996, has been given global marketing and development responsibility for the broad range of DuPont plastics and other engineering materials to the automotive industry. In his 17 years with DuPont, Fyrwald has held several international strategic business positions, including four years in Tokyo as director of Engineering Polymers - Japan and regional business manager for Butacite(R) safety glass interlayer product for Asia Pacific until 1994. From 1994 to 1996, Fyrwald was regional business manager for Zytel(R) nylon resins - Americas. "Jack's depth of experience and understanding of our product and worldwide markets are tremendous assets as we rapidly address the global cost, quality and technology issues that will drive the industry into the 21st century," said Savelli. "Erik's understanding of engineering materials and experience in the global marketplace will prove especially effective when working with first- and second-tier automotive suppliers, which are expanding their roles as systems suppliers and integrators in an international marketplace."
