ABC Technologies Announces the Shipment of Release 4.0, and Sets New Standards For ABC/M Analytic Applications

BEAVERTON, Ore.--July 27, 1998--ABC Technologies, the world's leading provider of software for Activity Based Costing/Management (ABC/M), has announced the shipment of its 4.0 Release.
Paul Bierbusse of Ernst & Young LLP stated that "(with release 4.0) the world's leading ABC software continues to set new standards in functionality." This release focuses on enterprise integration as well as applications that provide organizations integrated systems to leverage ABC data for organizational decision making. Release 4.0 further places the EasyABC and Oros families of ABC/M software in the forefront of Activity-Based Information Technology with introductions of products such as Rules and Strategies.

    Enabling Enterprise ABC/M
A significant barrier to spreading the ABC/M methodology across an entire enterprise is the ability to maintain consistency in local ABC/M models in order to provide overall corporate coherence. An exciting new application introduced by ABC Technologies, Oros Rules, allows organizations to set standards for model construction that can be used to certify remote/local models to ensure compliance. William McKinney, Vice President of Engineering at ABC Technologies states, "in classic ABC form, this approach does not follow a mainframe mentality of "command and control," rather it aligns perfectly with the "distributed" philosophy of today's server-PC based architectures and with the philosophy of ABC/M."

    Balanced Scorecard
ABC Technologies' introduction of Balanced Scorecard functionality within Oros, its market leading server based ABC/M system, prompted Steve Player, Partner and Firmwide Director of Cost Management at Arthur Andersen to state that "a Balanced Scorecard effort becomes powerful when enabled by activity-based information."

    Linking Strategy to Activities
In excitement over the release of Oros Strategies, an analytic application that allows organizational strategies to be linked to activities, Steve Fehr, Principal at KPMG Peat Marwick stated "there is nothing more critical to an organization's success than determining if its strategies are actually being supported by its activities. This is the first ABC product built to do just that, and it will interest top management."

    Linking Process Management to ABC/M
ABC Technologies has also launched, as part of its 4.0 release, a tight integration to Micrografx Flowcharter 7, in order to provide flowcharting capabilities integrated with ABC models. Paul Sharman, President of Canada based Focused Management Information, stated that "combining Process mapping with ABC gives their modeling tool a whole new dimension with views that are intuitive to operations management."
