Robert W. Rainey to Head Budd Shelbyville; Frank Goodwin to RetireTROY, Mich., July 21 -- The Budd Company today announced the appointment of Robert W. Rainey as plant manager of the company's Shelbyville, Ky. automotive stamping and assembly plant, effective October 1. Rainey succeeds Frank Goodwin, who is retiring September 30 after nearly 40 years of service, including the past 11 years as Shelbyville's first plant manager. Rainey, a 32-year Budd veteran, is currently tooling manager of the Budd Philadelphia Plant. He has also served in a number of positions including die tryout, employee involvement and special managerial assignments. In addition, Rainey was part of the launch team that was instrumental in opening the Shelbyville plant in 1987. "We are pleased to bring to Shelbyville a person with Bob Rainey's broad experience and special skills in working with people, processes and products," said Albert F. Kovach, president of Budd's Stamping & Frame Division. "And we commend Frank Goodwin for his leadership at the Shelbyville plant. The accomplishments of the associates at the plant have far surpassed our expectations." The plant at 1000 Old Brunerstown Road produces and assembles body components for cars and sport utility vehicles and employs 700. Budd, headquartered in Troy, MI, produces components such as doors, fenders, roofs, hoods, and decklids in sheet metal as well as in sheet molded composite (SMC), and gray iron and ductile iron castings for about 100 current vehicle models. Budd also makes prototypes, chassis frames and subframes, bumpers and bumper reinforcements, cold weather starting and heating products, and air bag components for the automotive industry. Budd is part of Thyssen Budd Automotive Company, a $3.5 billion supplier providing body systems, chassis and suspension parts and powertrain components to the automotive industry worldwide. Budd operates 32 facilities with about 9,500 employees in North America. In addition, the company has offices in Stuttgart, Germany, and Tokyo, Japan.
