Gas Prices Continue Slow Decline, AAA Says


    ORLANDO, Fla.--July 21, 1998--Gasoline prices continue to drop throughout most of the country, reversing recent slight increases, according to the latest figures from AAA's Fuel Gauge Report.
    Nationally, prices eked down by an average of nearly one cent for self-serve regular unleaded, dropping from $1.108 last month to $1.099 this month. Over the last two months, prices had increased by two cents. Last year at this time, the same gasoline cost $1.233, a difference of 13.4 cents.
    Self-serve mid-grade unleaded is $1.19 per gallon, 15.2 cents less than last year at this time. Self-serve premium is $1.25, 15.5 cents less than last year.
    Regionally, self-serve regular unleaded is most expensive in the West at $1.23 per gallon, 12.1 cents less than last year. It is least expensive in the Southeast at $1.01 per gallon, down 13.7 cents from last year.
    Other regional prices for self-serve regular unleaded are: New England, $1.098 per gallon, 15.3 cents less than last year; Mid-Atlantic, $1.083, down 12.3 cents from a year ago; Great Lakes, $1.094, down 10.3 cents from last year; Midwest, $1.07, down 14.9 cents from a year ago; and Southwest, $1.053, 15.9 cents less than last year.
