KKR Completes Acquisition of Bristol West Group

    NEW YORK and HOLLYWOOD, Fla., July 17 -- Kohlberg Kravis
Roberts & Co. (KKR) and the management of Bristol West announced today that
they have completed the previously announced purchase of Bristol West.
    Bristol West Group is a non-standard auto insurer with operations in
Florida and California.  The company operates through its carriers, Coast
National Insurance Company and Security National Insurance Company.  Bristol
West had 1997 gross premiums written of approximately $190 million.
