TechSociety Research Announces Book for Professionals New to Electronics Manufacturing Industry
BERKELEY, Calif.--July 16, 1998--The double-digit growth of the electronics manufacturing industry in North America is creating demand for non-engineering professionals as well as engineers.
Despite excellent credentials, these newcomers are often stymied when it comes to understanding the manufacturing processes, finding market information, or interpreting industry acronyms. This influx of new personnel coincides with management's increasing awareness of continuing education as a strategy for competitive advantage.
In order to help these professionals of marketing, sales, HR, PR, or finance, TechSociety Research created a book, A Primer on the Electronics Manufacturing Industry: Processes and Markets. Written by TSR's founder, Dr. Leora Lawton, this book provides concise layperson explanations of components, printed circuit board fabrication and assembly. Lawton remarks, "Often I've spoken with non-engineering professionals who stumble on acronyms such as SMT. They've told me they could really use an introduction to help them with the basics of technology."
The Primer does more than explaining engineering processes. It also provides a directory of trade organizations, magazines, with websites. Plus, it presents information about equipment manufacturers, contract manufacturers, industry standards (e.g., ISO9000), market data, commentaries on outsourcing and emerging regions, and a brief history of electronics. "One of my hats is being an educator," says Lawton. "I saw the need for an easy-to-read resource that would get people on their feet instantly."
TechSociety Research, a research and consulting company located in Berkeley, CA, provides custom market and marketing research for electronics manufacturers and other high-tech companies. Dr. Lawton has 15 years research experience, and writes regularly for electronics trade publications. Companies wishing to order the Primer may do so by calling (510) 548-6174, or emailing lawton@techsociety.com and requesting an order form.
