Detroit Diesel Introduces New DDEC System
DETROIT, July 16 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation
announced the introduction of the most powerful electronic control system
available on any heavy-duty engine, DDEC(R) IV (Detroit Diesel Electronic
Controls - Fourth Generation). The increased capability of DDEC IV allows
Detroit Diesel to offer vehicle owners a logical, simple and complete system
of products and programs to assist with every phase of vehicle ownership. The
combination of DDEC IV and the new system of products and programs is known
as: The DDEC System.
The DDEC System supports all phases of vehicle ownership: optimizing
vehicle specifications, maximizing profits, troubleshooting, support, and
maximizing trade-in value. The heart of the DDEC System is the new Electronic
Control Module (ECM) with 57 percent more memory and 50 percent more speed.
Features of the DDEC System include:

    * DDC's patented Optimized Idle(R) System which automatically starts and
stops Series 60 engines to maintain battery voltage, minimum oil temperature
and sleeper temperature.
    * DDC's ProDriver(R) System which gives drivers instant feedback on their
performance and allows fleets to pinpoint areas of truck operation which can
be improved.
    * Fuel Economy Incentive which allows fleets to automatically reward
drivers based on their ability to reduce idle time and otherwise save fuel.
    * DDEC Reports provide easy to use fleet management data including
maintenance, trip activity and engine diagnosis.
    * Low gear torque limiting which reduces engine torque in lower gears to
allow the use of smaller, lighter and lower cost transmissions.
The entire DDEC System consists of more than 42 products and programs
covering every phase of vehicle ownership and operation. The DDEC System is
available only from DDC and further enhances the value of the Series 60
engine, already the most popular heavy duty truck engine in North America.
