Sinclair Promoted to Vice President

PHILADELPHIA--July 15, 1998--The Pep Boys - Manny, Moe & Jack , the nation's leading automotive aftermarket retail and service chain, announced that Allen D. Sinclair has been promoted to Vice President-Southern Store Operations, filling the vacancy created by the recent promotion of Steven Shaneyfelt to the newly created position of Vice President-Sales.
Sinclair, 38, joined Pep Boys in 1993 and was promoted to Southern Regional Manager in 1996. In his capacity as Regional Manager, Sinclair was responsible for a number of the Company's most competitive markets and reported to Shaneyfelt.
Pep Boys' CEO, Mitchell G. Leibovitz, made the following comments:
"As Steve Shaneyfelt assumes chain-wide responsibility for retail and commercial sales, it is comforting to have someone with Allen Sinclair's background, ability and track record to oversee our Southern stores. So far this year, Allen's region has the highest average labor revenue per store, the highest average tire sales per store and the second highest total sales per store in the Company."
