Lucas Body Systems Announces QS-9000 Certification
    FENTON, Mich., July 14 -- Lucas Body Systems, a business of
LucasVarity's Electrical and Electronic Systems Division, has received QS-9000
certification for its plant in Fenton, Mich.
    QS-9000, sanctioned by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG),
comprises all ISO-9001 requirements in their entirety, with additional
requirements and measurables added from the Big Three automotive manufacturers
-- Ford, General Motors and Chrysler.  The Big Three require all component and
systems suppliers to obtain QS-9000 certification in order to be eligible to
bid on new contracts.
    "We are extremely pleased to have been awarded QS-9000 certification,"
said Ian Slater, vice president and general manager, Lucas Body Systems,
Fenton.  "All of our Fenton employees are to be commended for this
accomplishment, received as a result of hard work and true dedication."
    During the QS-9000 certification process, Lucas Body Systems was praised
by auditors on the dedication, conscientiousness and enthusiasm of its
workforce, a strong calibration system, a well-organized test laboratory and
well-informed production staff.  Lucas Body Systems' Fenton facility
manufactures a wide variety of driver interface and control products that
include multifunction column switches, instrument panel switches, electronic
modules and printed circuit boards (PCBs).  Current customers for the Fenton
site include General Motors, Ford, Chrysler Denso and Hewlett Packard.
    Lucas Body Systems is the world's largest independent supplier of OEM
vehicle heating and air conditioning controls.  Other products manufactured by
Lucas Body Systems include actuators, rain sensors, transmission switch
sensors, heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) controls and neutral
start back up (NSBU) switches.
