PROVIDENCE, R.I.--July 10, 1998--Textron Inc. today announced it has named George W. Dettloff president of Rockford, Ill.-based Camcar Textron. In his new role, Dettloff will oversee more than 13 manufacturing operations in the Americas and Asia, employing nearly 4,600 people.
Dettloff, 49, succeeds James R. MacGilvray, who has been appointed chairman and will focus on Camcar's global growth plans until his retirement at the end of 1998.
Dettloff joins Textron from Eaton Corporation, where he was General Manager of Eaton Transmissions, a $1 billion maker of heavy- and medium-duty transmissions for automotive and truck manufacturers. The business is based in Galesburg, MI and employs 6,000 people in North and South America.
"With his excellent track record in managing global operations and his knowledge of the transportation industry, George will be an asset to our rapidly expanding fastener business," said Textron Fastening Systems President Frank Gulden.
As president of Camcar, Dettloff is responsible for it's facilities in the US, Canada, Malaysia, Singapore and Brazil. Camcar makes threaded fasteners and cold-formed components serving the automotive, appliance, electronics and power tool industries.
Dettloff joined Eaton in 1988 as Operating Manager for their Engine Components division. In 1990, he was promoted to General Manager. Prior to Eaton, Dettloff held operations and worldwide procurement positions with Rockwell International in Pittsburgh, PA from 1983 to 1988, and General Motors Corporation from 1966 to 1983.
Dettloff received a BS in Industrial Engineering in 1971 from General Motors Institute and an MBA in Finance and International Trade in 1974 from the University of Detroit.
With nearly $2 billion in annualized revenues, Textron Fastening Systems is the global leader in engineered fastening systems and assemblies serving the automotive, aerospace, appliance, electronics, construction, do-it-yourself and inventory management industries. Textron Fastening Systems, with 68 locations in 17 countries, is a part of Textron's Industrial segment.
Textron Inc. is a $10.5 billion, global, multi-industry company with market-leading operations in Aircraft, Automotive, Industrial and Finance.
