Cummins Engine Company Announces New 3.3 Litre Engine for Industrial Markets
COLUMBUS, Ind.--July 9, 1998--Cummins Engine Co., Inc. announced today that it has come to an agreement with Komatsu, Ltd. to expand its range of products to include a 3.3 litre engine for mobile industrial applications.Under the agreement, a Cummins-Komatsu joint venture company, KCEC of Oyama, Japan, will produce the 3.3 litre engine for use by both companies. The engine will be a four-cylinder, naturally aspirated and turbocharged diesel engine with ratings from 55-85 horsepower (40-65 kW) and emissions compliant to the Environmental Protection Agency/European Tier 1, CARB and future EPA/European Tier 2 standards.
Joe Loughrey, Executive Vice President, Group President- Industrial, stated, "The 3.3 litre engine is a natural product line extension of Cummins' highly popular B3.9 and B5.9 midrange engine products, of which over 2.5 million have been sold worldwide." Loughrey went on to say, "The addition of this engine aligns with our business strategy of targeting profitable growth opportunities in new markets. The 3.3 litre will be a high-quality and competitively-priced product that can be tailored to match our customers business needs."
