J.D. Power: Auto Retailer Enrolls in Power Information Network

8 July 1998

J.D. Power and Associates Reports: Automotive Retailer Dah Chong Hong U.S.A. Enrolls in Power Information Network
AGOURA HILLS, Calif., July 8 -- The Power Information Network
(PIN) is providing timely electronic point-of-sale data to Dah Chong Hong
U.S.A. (DCH), an automotive retailer group with 22 franchises in California
and New Jersey, in order to help DCH accurately measure its customer
satisfaction and marketing objectives.
PIN, a growing division of J.D. Power and Associates, offers electronic
point-of-sale data for both new and used vehicles to more than 2,500
franchises across the United States.
"Our goal is to collect, analyze and forward critical information to the
person closest to the automotive customer -- the retailer," said J.D. Power
III. chairman and founder of J.D. Power and Associates. "The automotive
marketplace is undergoing fundamental and rapid change, and PIN information
not only helps retailers know what is going on in their market, it provides
action-oriented insights to meet the challenges retailers face daily."

PIN point-of-sale data will enable DCH to perform the following functions:

    * Gather Facts: Secured auto sales transaction information is transmitted
nightly from participating retailers' finance and insurance (F&I) computers.
This transaction information will enable DCH to streamline retail operations
so they are more customer friendly and make better use of the company's
marketing dollars.
    * Analyze Data: PIN professionals analyze the gathered data and provide
valuable information that can be integrated into DCH's business practices to
help track customers while obtaining new and retaining old one's.
    * Receive Focused Information: Drawing upon J.D. Power and Associates
experience in automotive analysis, a series of timely reports are generated
that provide the retailer with insights into their markets. The information
can be used immediately to create a road map to understanding their customers
in all aspects of the market, which will lead to higher sales and
profitability.

"We are thrilled about this venture with the Power Information Network,"
said Mike Babich, corporate marketing manager at Dah Chong Hong. "We enrolled
with PIN on a national level to essentially gain a better understanding of our
customers, and now that this relationship is in place, we can enhance our
focus on objectives like customer satisfaction and making better use of the
company's marketing dollars."
The Power Information Network offers the automotive industry a version of
the electronic scanner (point-of-purchase) technology that has existed for
decades in the packaged goods industry. Timely automotive transaction data
soon will be indispensable for improving inventory allocation, fostering
better relationships between retailers and manufacturers and providing
effective responses to changing customer preferences and customer
satisfaction.
PIN is adding new clients on a regular basis. By the end of 1998, PIN
will be reporting on markets that represent 35% of all light-vehicle sales in
the United States. The expansion process is expected to continue nationally
and internationally.
