Goodyear Signs Contract to Supply Southwest Airlines with TiresAKRON, Ohio, July 7 -- Goodyear announced it has signed a multi-million dollar contract to continue outfitting Southwest Airline's aircraft fleet with aviation tires. Goodyear supplies 100 percent of Southwest's original equipment, replacement and retreaded aircraft tire needs. Under terms of the new contract, Goodyear is supplying new and retreaded tires to more than 260 Southwest jets, including the Boeing 737-200, -300, -500 and the new Boeing 737-700. At Southwest's request, the new -700 aircraft, which Southwest has already taken delivery of, were outfitted by Boeing with Goodyear tires as original equipment. "The contract further strengthens a successful, 27-year relationship in which Goodyear and Southwest have worked very closely to ensure consistent tire delivery, performance and service," said Tom Walker, general manager for Goodyear's aviation products worldwide. "Through the ongoing support and commitment of our new and retread aviation tire plants, we will continue to strengthen our relationship and grow with Southwest Airlines." Goodyear manufactures a wide variety of aviation tires to meet the needs of the commercial, military and private aircraft industry worldwide. Its tires are original equipment on all types of commercial and private aircraft. In the U.S., Goodyear produces new aviation tires at its Danville, Va., plant and retreads aviation tires at plants in Kingman, Ariz., and Atlanta.
