Goodyear Signs Contract to Supply Southwest Airlines with Tires
AKRON, Ohio, July 7 -- Goodyear announced it has signed a
multi-million dollar contract to continue outfitting Southwest Airline's
aircraft fleet with aviation tires. Goodyear supplies 100 percent of
Southwest's original equipment, replacement and retreaded aircraft tire needs.
Under terms of the new contract, Goodyear is supplying new and retreaded
tires to more than 260 Southwest jets, including the Boeing 737-200, -300,
-500 and the new Boeing 737-700. At Southwest's request, the new -700
aircraft, which Southwest has already taken delivery of, were outfitted by
Boeing with Goodyear tires as original equipment.
"The contract further strengthens a successful, 27-year relationship in
which Goodyear and Southwest have worked very closely to ensure consistent
tire delivery, performance and service," said Tom Walker, general manager for
Goodyear's aviation products worldwide. "Through the ongoing support and
commitment of our new and retread aviation tire plants, we will continue to
strengthen our relationship and grow with Southwest Airlines."
Goodyear manufactures a wide variety of aviation tires to meet the needs
of the commercial, military and private aircraft industry worldwide. Its
tires are original equipment on all types of commercial and private aircraft.
In the U.S., Goodyear produces new aviation tires at its Danville, Va., plant
and retreads aviation tires at plants in Kingman, Ariz., and Atlanta.
