Jaguar Sales Increase in June and First Half of 1998
MAHWAH, N.J., July 6 -- Jaguar Cars today announced total
sales of 1,685 for the month of June, up 11.6 percent* compared with June
1997. In addition, sales for the first six months of 1998 totaled 10,689, an
improvement of 17 percent compared with the same period a year ago.
Marking the eighth consecutive month of year-over-year sales improvement,
Jaguar sold 1,206 sedans and 479 sports cars during June. Year-to-date, the
company delivered 7,526 sedans and 3,163 sports cars.
"We're providing customers with what they are looking for in a prestige
car," said Mike Dale, president of Jaguar Cars North America. "Jaguar offers
that unique combination of luxury and performance in a beautifully styled
automobile. Our sales continue to prove that point month over month."
Jaguar sales are up in Canada, too. June sales totaled 123 cars, up
23 percent compared with June 1997. Year-to-date sales in Canada of
683 sedans and sports cars are 26 percent better than the same period a year
ago.
The award-wining Jaguar XK8 convertible and coupe have continued Jaguar's
sports car heritage. The XK8 features the 4.0-liter AJ-V8 engine as well as
Jaguar's distinctive styling both inside and out. Jaguar introduced the AJ-V8
engine in its sedans for the 1998 model year. In addition, the cars' elegant
wood and leather interior was redesigned to accommodate upgrades such as side
airbags.
