Audi Announces Best June and Best First Half in Eleven Years

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 3 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported
U.S. sales of 3,993 for the month of June, representing a 23.9 percent
increase over the same month last year when sales were 3,224.
    With its June results, Audi celebrated its best June and its best first
half since 1987.  To date in 1998, Audi has sold 20,410 automobiles, a 19.9
percent increase over the same period last year when the total was 17,019.
During the first six months of 1998 in the United States, Audi received a
number of awards for its A4, A6 and A8 models and, in April, sold its
millionth car -- an A8 4.2 quattro.
    June's eleven-year high sales figures were driven by increases in every
new model line -- A4, A6 and A8.  Sales for these models in June were up 23.6,
36.8 and 12 percent respectively.  Year to date, the A6 is Audi's leading
model with a 63.2 percent increase over the same period last year.  And in the
last days of the month, the new A6 Avant arrived in showrooms accounting for
six percent of Audi's new A6 sales.
    Audi has achieved this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for
41 of the last 43 months.
