G. Richard Thoman Elected to Chrysler Board of Directors
    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 2 -- G. Richard (Rick) Thoman,
President and Chief Operating Officer of Xerox Corporation, was elected today
to the Board of Directors of Chrysler Corporation .
    Chrysler Chairman Robert J. Eaton said, "Xerox, a prominent international
company, recognized Rick's many talents and last year named him President and
COO -- we are pleased to have him as one of our Directors.  His extensive
experience will enable Rick to provide valuable insight and guidance to the
Chrysler Board."
    Thoman joined Xerox in 1997 as President and Chief Operating Officer and
leads the company in all document businesses worldwide including marketing,
sales, service and administration; and manufacturing, technology and product
development.
    Prior to joining Xerox, Thoman was Senior Vice President and Chief
Financial Officer of IBM.  He is widely credited with turning around their
personal computer business and leading a worldwide effort to re-engineer the
work processes, introducing brand management throughout the company and
strengthening IBM's relationships with the investment community.  Prior to
joining IBM, Thoman was President and CEO of Nabisco International, and
Chairman and CEO of American Express Travel Related Services.
    He serves on the board of the Xerox Corporation and the Bankers Trust
Corporation.  Thoman is also active on a number of educational boards, as well
as being a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
    Thoman received his B.A. from McGill University (Quebec, Canada), a
graduate degree from the Graduate Institute of International Studies (Geneva,
Switzerland), and three graduate degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and
Diplomacy at Tufts University (Boston), including a Ph.D. in International
Economics.
    Thoman is married with six children and resides in Greenwich, Connecticut.
