Hertz Acquires Big 4 Rents In San FranciscoPARK RIDGE, N.J., July 1 -- After previously announcing the signing of a purchase agreement, The Hertz Corporation has completed the acquisition of Big 4 Rents, Inc., a San Francisco, CA based equipment rental company. Familiarly known as Big 4, the company, which operates 10 locations in the San Francisco Bay Area serving the construction industry and the homeowner market, will operate under the name Hertz Big 4. Revenues for 1997 were $46.1 million. No price was disclosed for the cash purchase "We're very pleased to acquire Big 4. It is in line with our strategy for growing the HERC brand and strengthens our already visible presence in the San Francisco Bay Area," said Gerald A. Plescia, Hertz Executive Vice President and President of its equipment rental unit, Hertz Equipment Rental Corporation (HERC). "We're happy, that Kenny Burge, Vice President, Operations, will remain with the company after the acquisition. Principal shareholders Chuck Bradley and Linda Bradley will be retained as consultants with the company." The Big 4 acquisition follows the acquisition last month of A-1 Rental Sales & Service with one location in Charleston, West Virginia. Hertz, the world's largest car rental company, is also a leader in the equipment rental industry with over 200 locations worldwide.
