LRNA Open House is Company's Largest-Ever U.S. Owner Event1,000 Celebrate Land Rover's 50th Anniversary at Corporate Headquarters LANHAM, Md., June 29 -- One thousand Land Rover enthusiasts gathered at Land Rover North America's U.S. corporate headquarters outside Washington, D.C., on Saturday, June 27, for a fun-filled day in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Land Rover's introduction to the automotive world in 1948. Some traveled from as far away as Florida, Quebec and California to share tales of their adventures in the BEST 4X4 X FAR. Two hundred sixty- eight Land Rovers, ranging from a 1951 Series I to just-out-the-door, gleamed in the sunshine of a perfect summer day. Charles R. Hughes, President, Land Rover North America, Inc., said, "We are delighted to have hosted so many of our very enthusiastic owners, each of whom we consider to be a member of a very special club. Their response to the event was most gratifying. This is a day we will remember for a long time." There were many activities to enjoy, including a vehicle teeter-totter competition; a unique autocross, in which steering to the right turned the vehicle left, and vice versa; demonstration rides on the company's two challenging demonstration courses; and technical demonstrations at Land Rover University, the company's training division. There were even activities for the more than one hundred children on hand, including a treasure hunt in a giant sandbox for buried miniature Land Rovers vehicles. A wide selection of brunch and lunch items and a live band added to the day's festivities. Land Rover North America, Inc., the world's only manufacturer of exclusively four-wheel drive vehicles, is a member of the Rover Group of Companies, importing vehicles manufactured by Land Rover, Solihull, England.
