Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution LLC (ST&D) announced today it has acquired Lafayette, Ind.-based Landis & Gyr Utilities Services, Inc., giving Siemens complete metering solutions for applications ranging from the home to the power plant.
Landis & Gyr will be merged into ST&D and become part of its Charlotte, N.C.-based Meter Division, where John Shumar will continue as Meter Division vice president. Marketing and Sales, R&D and manufacturing will continue at the respective sites.
Landis & Gyr adds residential and commercial metering capabilities to Siemens' industrial and utility metering products. In addition, it offers a wide range of systems from data collection to billing and clearing.
"This is an extremely complementary addition to ST&D's Meter Division," said Shumar. "We've been eager for several months to present to customers a united company that offers not only a complete range of metering capabilities but also innovative solutions for the whole chain of commercial processes of an energy utility."
The enhanced Siemens product offering will include payment systems, IEDs (intelligent electronic devices), single-phase electromechanical meters, solid-state single-phase and polyphase meters, recorders, totalizers, isolation relays and energy information systems.
In April, Siemens AG, based in Munich and Berlin, announced the purchase of the Landis & Gyr meter business from Electrowatt, Ltd., based in Zug, Switzerland. The Landis & Gyr Utilities Services, Inc., acquisition completes the North American leg of Siemens' acquisition of Electrowatt's global metering business. Anticipated worldwide sales of the new Siemens metering business division are projected to be $650 million, making Siemens a world leader in metering systems and services.
Siemens Power Transmission & Distribution, headquartered in Wendell, N.C., manufactures and markets equipment and energy service solutions for electric utilities, independent power producers, co-generators and other energy-intensive industries. It has operations in Charlotte, N.C., Minneapolis, Minn., Jackson, Miss., Atlanta, Ga., Lafayette, Ind., Miami, Fla., and Reynosa, Mexico.
