ISS' Internet Scanner Awarded 'Security Product of the Year' at UK Networking Industry Event
LONDON--June 29, 1998--ISS gains further recognition for
product excellence from top industry figures
Hot on the heels of its success in being voted the "Best Security Management Product" by readers of Secure Computing magazine in April, Internet Scanner(tm), the market-leading network vulnerability detection software from Internet Security Systems , has won yet another major accolade. Internet Scanner, the industry's first security scanning product, was recently named the "Security Product of the Year" at the UK Networking Industry Awards. The official awards ceremony, organized by CMP Media, publisher of Network Week, Information Week and Internet Magazine, took place last week during the Networks Telecom '98 show in Birmingham, England.
"Winning the Secure Computing award confirmed that ISS has gained significant recognition as the pioneer and industry standard for security assessment technology within the network user community worldwide," says Kevin Black, general manager in the UK for Internet Security Systems. "This latest achievement clearly demonstrates that our 'best-of-breed' product strategy has also earned the respect of colleagues in the networking industry. Naturally, we're delighted to receive such high praise from our peers."
Entries for the UK Networking Industry Awards were assessed by a panel of judges comprising a mix of respected technology journalists from publisher CMP Media UK and senior figures from some of Britain's leading networking industry players. In its citation for the Security Product of the Year award, CMP Media's Network Week, says of Internet Scanner: "....[it gives you] a way of checking for all types of insecurity in a matter of minutes - no more racking your brains and verifying the sanity of nasty configuration files, the patch levels you're working at, and so on. A great time saver, and one that is easy to use and understand."
ISS is the leading developer of network vulnerability detection solutions for Windows NT and Unix platforms. In addition to Internet Scanner, the company provides a complete line of adaptive security management software with its SAFEsuite(R) family of security assessment and intrusion detection systems. In a January 1998 market research report, the Aberdeen Group identified ISS as the clear market leader in the adaptive network security market of vulnerability scanning and intrusion detection software with a 35% market share. In addition to Network Week, ISS' SAFEsuite has won highly acclaimed awards from industry publications, including Network Magazine, LAN Times, Network World, PC Week, Secure Computing, Windows Magazine and Windows NT Magazine.
Internet Scanner enables network administrators to proactively manage security risks with the aid of a comprehensive and dynamic database of attacker methods and security vulnerabilities, which it uses to scan the network and identify security holes automatically. Internet Scanner thoroughly evaluates the security of an entire enterprise network and intranet - including all Unix, Windows NT and Windows 95 machines, as well as firewalls, Web servers, routers and applications - and responds with detailed, easy-to-understand corrective actions, automatic prioritization of security risks and a series of technical and management reports. ISS' XForce, a senior research and development team dedicated to collecting and identifying new security weaknesses, updates Internet Scanner on a regular basis, ensuring that customers' systems are protected from newly discovered security threats.
