General Motors Awards TREMEC Transmissions Supplier-of-the-Year Award for 1997

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., June 29 -- TREMEC Transmissions, an
affiliate of Transmission Technologies Corporation (TTC), was recognized by
General Motors as a Supplier-of-the-Year for 1997.  This is the
second year in a row TREMEC has received the honor.  The prestigious award was
given to 182 suppliers representing 25 countries.  This is the sixth year for
GM's program, which recognizes supplier companies worldwide who exceed
specific performance standards in the areas of quality, service, and price.
    The 182 companies receiving the award were selected from a GM supplier
base of more than 30,000 supplier companies.  Companies recognized were
selected by teams of purchasing, quality, engineering, and manufacturing
experts from GM operations around the world.  TREMEC supplies transmissions to
a number of GM passenger cars and light-duty trucks.
    "We are extremely proud to be a supplier-of-the-year for the world's
largest auto maker," said Francisco Ramirez, General Manager at TREMEC.  "This
proves that TREMEC's customer-focused mission and quest for continuous
improvement are being recognized by the industry.  This award truly belongs to
all of TREMEC's employees, who have worked hard to make TREMEC the premiere
transmission supplier to the automobile and light truck markets."
    Harold R. Kutner, GM's Vice President for Worldwide Purchasing and North
American Production Control & Logistics, hosted the awards program in Mexico
City.  "Companies honored by GM's Supplier-of-the-Year Award have demonstrated
that they are among the 'Best of the Best.'  They are truly worldwide leaders
in product development, technology, manufacturing, continuous improvement,
value, and most importantly, quality."
    TREMEC transmissions are marketed by Transmission Technologies Corporation
(TTC).  TTC markets transmission products globally for a wide variety of
vehicles ranging from high performance passenger cars and light trucks to
Class 8 heavy-duty trucks.  Brands include Spicer heavy-duty, Spicer
medium-duty, and TREMEC light-duty transmissions.
