Toyota Standardizes on Mercury Interactive Tools for Year 2000 Testing
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--June 29, 1998--Mercury Interactive Corporation , the world's leading provider of enterprise application testing solutions, today announced that Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. has standardized on Mercury Interactive's Year 2000 testing solutions to test Year 2000 compliance across the enterprise.Toyota will be using TestSuite 2000, which is comprised of Mercury Interactive's WinRunner 2000 for automated regression testing, TestDirector(TM) for test management, and TestBytes(TM) for test data generation.
"Toyota selected Mercury Interactive's TestSuite 2000 for its ease-of-use and cross-platform portability," said Ayric Osborne, project manager for Year 2000 testing at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc. "We expect automated testing to significantly speed our conversion efforts by recognizing problem areas early on. We've already been successful in putting the first two applications back into production, fully Year 2000 compliant."
Toyota selected TestSuite 2000 over competing testing tools offered by Compuware and SQA for its ability to test a variety of mission-critical applications using PCs instead of testing on a mainframe.
Toyota's Year 2000 compliance projects span mainframe, AS/400 and PC-based applications including financials, order entry, inventory, and tracking. With WinRunner 2000, Toyota can not only test mainframe applications but also AS/400, GUI and Web applications simultaneously.
The integration of WinRunner 2000 with TestDirector enables users to plan and execute tests in parallel, greatly decreasing the overall time it takes to convert an application. Toyota is leveraging WinRunner 2000's date manipulation functions to validate using special dates such as 12/31/99, 1/3/00, 2/29/00, 3/1/00, age script dates, and verify that the applications will work as expected after the Year 2000 and well into the 21st century.
TestDirector enables Toyota to manage manual and automated tests, track defects and store key test information in its central repository.
"We're pleased to contribute to Toyota's success in completing their Year 2000 compliance projects on schedule with Mercury Interactive's Year 2000 testing tools," said Jonathan Rende, Year 2000 product marketing manager at Mercury Interactive. "Toyota is maximizing its investment in automated testing -- saving time and money -- by using date script aging and verification to replay the same original test script for different iterations."
TestSuite 2000
Mercury Interactive's TestSuite 2000 consists of WinRunner 2000, TestDirector and TestBytes for integrated functional testing, test management and test data generation. The combination of Mercury Interactive's automated testing tools working in parallel speeds the conversion process.
In typical Year 2000 conversion methodologies, developers inspect the code, fix the code, create test cases and test the code. The integration of WinRunner 2000 with TestDirector enables users to execute these steps in parallel while greatly decreasing the overall time it takes to convert an application.
