Motorsports Division Formed by MTS Systems Corporation
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., June 24 -- MTS Systems Corporation
today reported that it had formed a new division, MTS
Motorsports, to serve the car racing industry.
The new division's mission is to supply advanced simulation-test systems
and services specifically designed for the requirements of car racing,
including Indy CART, NASCAR, and Formula 1. David Meier and Roger Sparrow
have been named managers for the new division.
"For several years MTS has been supplying the motorsports community with
modified versions of simulation-test systems previously sold to the worldwide
passenger car industry," said Sparrow. "But more recently our motorsports
customers have been asking for entirely new approaches to help them design
faster cars. A good example is the need for 150 plus miles per hour
aerodynamic simulation and force measurement on a laboratory roadway system,"
he continued. "Simulation-testing for aerodynamic effects at these speeds is a
requirement which doesn't exist for passenger cars. We concluded that the
motorsports industry deserves a special focus within MTS."
"Our customers are the racing teams themselves, chassis and powertrain
systems suppliers and individual component manufacturers whose products are
critical to performance -- such as suspension and tires," Meier said. "We've
recently received contracts for simulation-testing systems for high frequency
shock absorbers and full car "7-poster" suspension systems incorporating new
technology. We also are developing one quarter car systems with a spinning
tire incorporating MTS' patented Flat-Trac(TM) roadway using steel belts for
higher speeds. We believe that much of the technology we develop for these
customers will ultimately be used for passenger car testing as well," Meier
added.
This release contains forward-looking statements based on management's
best judgment and current expectations. Actual results could differ based on
many factors, including the company's competitive performance and changes in
market conditions.
MTS Systems Corporation manufactures computer-based testing and simulation
systems for determining the mechanical behavior of materials, products, and
structures, and measurement and control instrumentation products for the
automation of manufacturing processes.
