July 4th Gas Prices Down 14 Cents From 1997; Lowest Since 1990 Independence Day
ORLANDO, Fla.--June 23, 1998--Fourth of July holiday travelers will pay 14 cents per gallon less for gasoline than they did one year ago, according to AAA.AAA's Fuel Gauge Report shows the average national price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline is $1.108 per gallon, 14.2 cents lower than last July 4th. This is the lowest pre-July 4th price since 1990 when self-serve unleaded was $1.086.
Self-serve mid-grade unleaded is $1.20 per gallon, 13 cents less than last year. Self-serve premium is $1.257, 14.3 cents less than last year.
Self-serve regular unleaded is most expensive in the West at $1.235 per gallon, 12 cents lower than a year ago. It is least expensive in the Southeast at $1.023, 14.7 cents below last year.
Other regional prices for self-serve are: New England, $1.113 per gallon, 15.4 cents lower than last year; Mid-Atlantic, $1.093, down 13 cents from a year ago; Great Lakes, $1.109, down 11.9 cents from last year; Midwest, $1.07, down 17.4 cents from a year ago; and Southwest, $1.071, down 15.9 cents less than last year.
The national average prices for self-serve regular unleaded gasoline for AAA's pre-July 4th survey for the last five years were: 1997, $1.25 per gallon; 1996, $1.303 per gallon; 1995, $1.288; 1994, $1.115 and 1993, $1.123.
