Ward's Reports Estimated Production
    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 19 -- Vehicle production in the U.S.,
Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 276,555 units this week, a
decrease of 12.3 percent from the 315,494 cars and trucks built a week ago,
according to Ward's Automotive Reports.
     With this week's estimates, calendar year North American output now
totals 7,874,983 vehicles.  That is down 1.3 percent from like-1997's pace.
    In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 199,950 vehicles this
week, down 16.5 percent from the 239,385 cars and trucks built last week.  To
date, calendar 1998 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 5,952,241 units,
which is down 1.1 percent from the 6,016,287 vehicles built in like-1997.
   This week's Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 45,912, a 9.1
percent decrease from the 50,530 units assembled a week ago.  Estimated
calendar-1998 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,301,515 units, off
3.3 percent from the 1,346,524 vehicles produced in like-1997.
    Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the United
States, Ford Motor Co. accounted for 38.8 percent; Chrysler Corp., 19.3
percent; General Motors Corp., 13.9 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.0
percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.0 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.5
percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 2.7 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc.,
2.2 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.8 percent; Mitsubishi Motor
Mfg. of America Inc., 1.4 percent;  Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Inc., 0.8
percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.6 percent; and other manufacturers, 3.0
percent.
