New President Named at Nissan R&D

New President Named at Nissan R&D
    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., June 17 -- Nissan Research and
Development, Inc. announced that Shigeo Ishida has been promoted to president
of the North American engineering operation of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.
Ishida's promotion is effective today.
    Ishida succeeds Keiichi Shinohara, who has been president of NRD since
January 1995.  Shinohara is returning to Japan to another assignment.
    As NRD president, Ishida is responsible for all of Nissan's vehicle
research and development operations in Michigan, California, Tennessee,
Arizona and Massachusetts.  Most recently, Ishida was senior vice president
for product planning and vehicle engineering at NRD, a position he has held
since July 1997.  He will maintain those responsibilities in addition to those
of president.
    Ishida joined Nissan in Japan in 1970 after receiving a bachelor's degree
in engineering from Yamaguchi University.  In 1991, he joined NRD as director,
engineering administration, and was later promoted to vice president.
    He returned to Japan in 1993 as deputy general manager in the Body Design
Department.  The following year Ishida was assigned to the Product Design
Administration Department and was named general manager in the Vehicle Design
Department No. 1 in February 1996.  Ishida held that position until June 1997
when he joined NRD as senior vice president.
    Ishida, 50, is married and has two children.  He and his family live in
Novi, Mich.
    Nissan Research and Development Inc., is the U.S. vehicle development arm
of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. of Japan.  NRD operates a technical center in
Farmington Hills, Mich., and has other operations in Los Angeles and
Cambridge, MA, in addition to offices at the Arizona Test Center in Stanfield,
AZ, and at Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation USA in Smyrna, Tenn.
    In North America, Nissan's operations include styling, engineering,
manufacturing, sales, consumer and corporate financing, and industrial and
