Pilkington Appoints Warren D Knowlton President Automotive Products Worldwide and Regional President NAFTAST. HELENS, England, June 10 -- International glass group Pilkington, which is headquartered in England, has appointed Warren D Knowlton, a main board director of Pilkington p1c, to the position of President, Automotive Products Worldwide, effective June 21, 1998. Knowlton, who will be based in Toledo, Ohio, will in addition be President of Pilkington's North American Automotive Operations and Regional President, NAFTA. He is also appointed Chairman of Pilkington Libbey-Owens-Ford. Pilkington Group Chief Executive Paolo Scaroni said, "The restructuring of our Building Products business in Europe, which Warren has led, is well underway. As a Pilkington main board director, and a U.S. citizen with wide industrial experience, Warren is well qualified to take charge of our American and Automotive businesses at this time. We have every confidence that his appointment will greatly strengthen our operations in these areas." Knowlton joined Pilkington in 1997, after a 20-year career with Owens Corning. Since May 1997 he has been President, Building Products Worldwide, with responsibility for a major restructuring of Pilkington's building products business, particularly in Europe. Knowlton was appointed a main board director of Pilkington plc in October 1997. Pilkington, the world's leading glass group, is also the largest supplier of glazing to the automotive industry, with one in four of the world's vehicles using its glass. Knowlton said, "I look forward to working in this important area of the Pilkington Group's operations, and to renewing my personal links with the City of Toledo." Biographical Note: WARREN D KNOWLTON Warren Knowlton has been President of Building Products Worldwide since May 1997 and a main board director of Pilkington plc since October 1997. He joined Pilkington in 1997 from Owens Coming where he was President of their European and African operations. He worked for Owens Coming for 20 years and held a number of key jobs including: * Vice President of Manufacturing for their Global building material businesses. * Vice President of sales for their industrial operating group. * CFO of the Owens Corning Insulation businesses. * Plant Manager of their US Georgia facility. In June 1994 he acquired the Insulation and Kitson's Distribution businesses from Pilkington and drove both of these businesses to increasing levels of profitability. During the next three years, he made a series of acquisitions in the UK, Italy, Spain and South Africa which helped to cement the Owens Coming position in that part of the World. He worked previously for the J.C. Penney company in New York City as a Financial Planner in the Treasurer's area and as a Field Manager for one of their distribution operations. He served as an officer in the US Army from 1968-1971 and received his Bachelor of Science from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, MBA from the University of Utah and Juris Doctorate cum laude from the University of Toledo. He is admitted to practice in the State and Federal Court systems in the United States. Warren has lived in Europe for the past five years, the last four of which have been in the UK.
