Perfect Circle(R) Retires Muskegon(R) Brand Engine Components in North America/EDITORS' NOTE: This press release supersedes PHTU043 which ran on June 2, 1998/ MUSKEGON, Mich., June 9 -- Dana Corporation's Perfect Circle Division has announced that, effective immediately, the Muskegon(R) brand name is being retired in the domestic market, and replaced by the Perfect Circle(R) brand name. Dana World Trade will retain exclusive use of the Muskegon name for exported piston rings sold outside North America. The Muskegon brand was acquired by Dana Corporation in 1988. In recent years, Muskegon ring packs were primarily sold to engine rebuilding shops, while other parts outlets sold rings under the Perfect Circle brand name. Perfect Circle cited numerous benefits of this change: -- As the world's largest manufacturer of piston rings, Perfect Circle enjoys strong brand recognition in North America. This recognition is supported by extensive advertising exposure, and serves to enhance the image of products that use Perfect Circle brand components. -- Perfect Circle will continue to supply the highest quality product available. Just one example was the recent naming of Perfect Circle as "1997 Supplier of the Year" by John Deere Engine Works, the highest honor bestowed on a supplier by Deere. This award was presented to recognize extraordinary levels of quality and order fill. -- Engine rebuilders, machine shops, W/Ds and jobbers will only need to index the Perfect Circle product line. -- Perfect Circle's role as a major original equipment supplier ensures the widest application coverage in the industry. -- Perfect Circle maintains both the largest piston ring packaging and test facility in North America. This assures maximum order fill, and allows Perfect Circle to back it up with the technical expertise to solve the most challenging application problems. To ease the transition and accommodate rebuilders who are used to the Muskegon product selection, Dana will continue to offer the top-selling 288 Muskegon ring pack part numbers domestically under the Perfect Circle Brand. Perfect Circle is part of Dana's Engine Components group.
