TRW and Simula Agree to Integrate Simula Product as Part of TRW Side Impact Protection OfferingsPHOENIX and WASHINGTON, Mich., June 9 -- TRW and Simula, Inc. announced today that TRW Vehicle Safety Systems Inc. and Simula Automotive Safety Devices, Inc. have entered into an agreement to integrate Simula's inflatable tubular structure ("ITS") into TRW's product line for side impact protection systems. TRW said Simula's ITS has applications for automotive customers around the world. TRW and Simula are currently integrating the ITS on two vehicle platforms and have agreed to work together on programs for at least two additional automotive customers. Under terms of the agreement, TRW and Simula will work on joint programs to develop, market and sell applications of the Simula ITS to automotive manufacturers. The companies also will work toward jointly developing technologies based on ITS. TRW is the world's largest provider of occupant restraint systems, including air bags, seat belts and steering wheel systems. Based in Cleveland, TRW provides advanced technology products and services for the automotive and space and defense markets. Sales for 1997 were about $12 billion, including the company's acquisition of BDM International. TRW's automotive industry sales were more than $7 billion. Simula, based in Phoenix, is an acknowledged world leader in transportation safety and energy absorption technology. Its principal product lines are protective systems including inflatable restraints, air bags and ballistic armor; high technology energy absorbing aircraft seating systems; and rail and mass transit seating systems.
