Titan Completes Acquisition of South American Tire Manufacturer FUNSA
QUINCY, Ill., June 8 -- Titan International, Inc.
has completed its acquisition of 81 percent of the common stock of Fabrica
Uruguaya de Neumaticos S.A. (FUNSA) of Montevideo, Uruguay. FUNSA reported
annual sales of approximately 36 million U.S. dollars. The facility produces
car radial and specialty tires, including agricultural tires up to size
18.4x38.
"We are pleased with this acquisition and believe that after two years
manufacturing will increase to $80 million," stated Maurice Taylor Jr.,
president and CEO of Titan International, Inc. "FUNSA is the only tire
manufacturer in Uruguay and this acquisition gives Titan a significant
foothold in the Mercosur free trade zone and increases Titan's worldwide tire
production capabilities. Positioning Titan within the duty free Mercosur is
critical to Titan's overall strategy for South America as we will be
announcing a wheel manufacturing location in Brazil within 90 days."
Titan International, Inc. is a global manufacturer of mounted wheel and
tire systems for off-highway equipment used in agriculture, construction,
mining, military, recreation and grounds care. Titan has global manufacturing
and distribution facilities.
