Allied Automotive Group Earns ISO-9002 Certification On First AttemptDECATUR, Ga., June 5 -- Allied Holdings, Inc. announced today that its automotive transportation subsidiary, Allied Automotive Group, has been awarded ISO-9002 certification by American Quality Assessors of Columbia, S.C., effective May 27, 1998. The certification culminates an 18-month preparation period by AAG and a six-week audit process by AQA. AQA is a third-party firm hired to administer the ISO audit for the Registration Accreditation Board. ISO certification evidences that AAG has met certain strict quality guidelines in a total of 18 categories, including such areas as service process control, inspection and testing, internal audit system, training, statistical techniques, and others. AAG's certification applies to all of the company's 120 locations throughout the United States and Canada. The ISO-9002 certification is the category of the ISO-9000 program designated for service companies. Certification remains in effect for three years. During that time, AQA will perform a "surveillance" audit every six months to ensure certain ISO standards continue to be met. As a certified ISO-9002 company, Allied Automotive Group may display the ISO-9002 emblem on certain signs, letterhead and company publications. The automotive group's three largest customers -- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler -- require all companies which do business with them be ISO certified by the end of 1998. The certification now enables AAG to continue bidding on major long-term contracts with each of the Big Three auto makers. Allied Automotive Group received ISO-9002 certification in its first attempt. "This is an extremely significant accomplishment," said Dennis Jones, AAG vice president of Quality Assurance. "We went through this process at a time when our company doubled itself in size and still maintained credibility with our customers. It is significant in that this certification demonstrates that Allied Automotive Group already has a quality process in place with strict guidelines." "We are extremely pleased that we were able to earn this certification on our first attempt," said Joe Collier, president of Allied Automotive Group. "We have made quality an important part of the services we provide to our customers for many years and the ISO-9002 certification publicly underscores that commitment." "Allied Automotive Group has achieved a major accomplishment in earning the ISO-9002 certification," said A. Mitchell Poole Jr., president and chief operating officer of Allied Holdings. "We cannot overstate the fact that AAG's designation as an ISO-9002 certified company is an outward endorsement of the internal commitments to quality and service that all Allied Holdings subsidiaries support. We celebrate AAG's significant achievement and pledge to all Allied Holdings customers a renewed commitment to quality and service in the months and years ahead."
