Pirelli Announces Addition Of ADSS Cable To Product LineLEXINGTON, S.C., June 5 -- Pirelli Cables and Systems North America has announced the addition of an All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) fiber optic cable to its line of products for the communications and energy industries. ADSS cable offers its users several unique capabilities, and Pirelli's ADSS cable is designed specifically with user needs in mind. ADSS cable is designed to be installed along existing aerial utility pole pathways, allowing the user easier access to rights of way than with standard buried or lashed applications. It is designed and tested to meet draft IEEE P1222 specifications, the pending industry standard. A full variety of utility hardware is available with this product. ADSS's all-dielectric design allows the cable to be installed in the Supply region of the utility pole, utilizing previously unused space on the pole. Because ADSS cable is self-supporting, installation is faster and easier than with previous aerial designs, such as Figure 8. Using standard utility hardware, the installation becomes more cost efficient and easier than with other designs. Pirelli ADSS cable is designed to meet the distribution applications of most of its customers. It is available in fiber counts up to 144 fibers, in single-mode, multi-mode or non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber. "Pirelli's ADSS cable meets the quality and functionality requirements that customers expect from us," Raymond L. Robinson, senior vice president and general manager of Pirelli Cables and Systems North America's Communications Division, said. "The added advantage to our customers is that we can offer a product that is thoroughly tested and proven and get it to the customer with a responsive lead time, with full technical support from engineering to field service and a delivery system that approaches 100 percent on-time performance." Pirelli Cables and Systems North America is headquartered in Columbia, S.C. With facilities in Lexington and Abbeville, S.C., Colusa, Calif., Surrey, British Columbia, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and Prescott, Ontario, it provides fiber optic cable and photonics equipment for the communications industry and energy transmission and distribution cable for the utility and commercial building industries.
