Dodge to Join 'Ride' for Harley-Davidson's 95th AnniversaryAUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 4 -- Someone once said, "If Dodge were a motorcycle, it would be a Harley-Davidson." So it's only fitting that the Chrysler Corporation's Dodge Division is the Official Truck and Ride Route Sponsor for Harley-Davidson's 95th Anniversary celebration. The celebration begins June 3, 1998, when Harley riders get their motors running for five separate kick-off "rides" from various cities throughout the country: Spokane, Wash.; Riverside, Calif.; Dallas; York, Pa.; and Orlando, Fla. Riders from Canada and Mexico, and those who've shipped their motorcycles from overseas, will join the caravan along the way. The ultimate destination for these 100,000 riders is Milwaukee's Summerfest Grounds, where they will converge for Harley-Davidson's 95th Anniversary Reunion on June 13, 1998. Dodge is partnering with Harley-Davidson dealers to set up "pit stops" along the routes of each of the five rides. At these "pit stops," riders will have the opportunity to rest, eat and service their motorcycles. In addition, Dodge will provide a total of 60 trucks and vans to serve as support vehicles along the five Ride routes, and at the Rally and Reunion in Milwaukee. Dodge will also sponsor a sweepstakes giving away a motorcycle and other joint-logoed merchandise. "Dodge is proud to play a role in celebrating the rich heritage of Harley- Davidson," said Jim Julow, General Manager of the Dodge Division. "Like Harley-Davidson, the Dodge brand offers instantly recognizable vehicles that are bold, powerful and capable. And like Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Dodge trucks have an image, or culture, that attracts an extremely loyal group of consumers." As part of its sponsorship, Dodge trucks will be featured alongside Harley-Davidson motorcycles at national indoor motorcycle shows including Daytona Bike Week and Sturgis Black Hills Rally and Races. To facilitate set- up and logistics for Harley-Davidson's 95th Anniversary celebration, Dodge will provide approximately 60 Dodge Ram trucks and vans. "This is a great opportunity for the Dodge brand," said Julow. "We will seek opportunities to maximize this sponsorship with local Dodge dealerships along each of the routes. We look forward to working closely with Harley- Davidson." Harley-Davidson 95th Anniversary activities will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
