Automakers Favor China MFN Renewal
WASHINGTON, June 4 -- The following is a statement by Andrew
H. Card, Jr., President & CEO of the American Automobile Manufacturers
Association (AAMA), regarding the renewal of normal trade ties with China:

"America's Car Companies strongly support continuing normal trade
relations with China through the renewal of its most favored nation (MFN)
status.
"In the year since the last MFN debate, economic and strategic crises
throughout Asia have created new and serious instability in the region.
Denying MFN to China today would make solutions to these challenges more
difficult to achieve. Changing course would serve no U.S. interest.
"There has never been a more important time for the U.S. to continue to
strengthen its trading relationship with the world's most populous country.
Congress should act swiftly and unequivocally to reaffirm longstanding U.S.
policy of normal trade ties with China."

AAMA is the trade association whose members are Chrysler Corporation
, Ford Motor Company and General Motors Corporation
