Nissan and Infiniti Receive Initial Quality Study (IQS) Awards
    CARSON, Calif., June 3 -- J. D. Power & Associates today
announced the 1998 Initial Quality Survey (IQS2) results. This year's report
indicates strong showings for both Nissan and Infiniti models.
The 1998 study is called IQS2 and is designed to provide manufacturers and
consumers information on new vehicle quality during the important first 90
days of ownership. IQS2 is an evolution of the original study that has been
conducted since 1987 and is more sensitive to consumer problems.
Results for the 1998 report were attained from J. D. Power and Associates'
survey of more than 58,000 purchasers of new car and light truck models.

    Highlights are as follows:

    NISSAN
    * Frontier ranked best in the Compact Pickup Segment
    * Altima continued its strong showing for the third straight year,
finishing second in the Compact Car Segment
    * Pathfinder ranked second in the Compact Sport Utility Segment.

    INFINITI
    * QX4 tied for first with Lincoln Navigator in the Luxury Sport Utility
Vehicle Segment and is one of only three models repeating this year as a
segment winner.

"At Nissan we're getting back to the basics in all aspects of our business
and there's nothing more basic than product quality," said Minoru Nakamura,
president, Nissan Motor Corp. U.S.A. "It's very gratifying to have our newest
Nissan and Infiniti owners independently validate the basic and important fact
that Nissan produces quality cars and trucks."
