Audi Achieves Best May and Best Year-To-Date Since 1987

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., June 3 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported
U.S. sales of 3,249 for the month of May, representing a 17 percent increase
over the same month last year when sales were 2,777.
    That made it Audi's best May and best year-to-date since 1987.  The
primary motivators behind these results are Audi's A4 sport sedans, the new A4
Avant sport wagon and the daring, new A6 sedan.  Sales of the new A6 sedan
alone were up over 144 percent.  A6 sales should increase even more later in
June when the new Audi A6 Avant appears in showrooms across the United States.
Audi has demonstrated this kind of year-over-previous-year sales increase for
40 of the last 42 months.
    So far in 1998, Audi has sold 16,417 automobiles representing a 19 percent
increase over the same period last year when the total was 13,795.
