Ergenics Delivers Custom Hydride/Hydrogen Storage Vessels for Fuel Cell ApplicationsRINGWOOD, N.J., June 3 -- Ergenics, Inc. announced today that it has delivered its 300th custom metal hydride/hydrogen storage vessel for use with fuel cells. The hydride vessels deliver clean dry hydrogen gas which is efficiently converted into electrical energy by the fuel cells. Fuel cell hydrogen storage is the fastest growing market for Ergenics' hydride vessels. Fuel cells produce electrical power by reacting a fuel, usually hydrogen, with oxygen. They are very efficient and, when using hydrogen, are pollution free. Used in space for many years, fuel cells are now being developed for a wide range of energy supply applications including hybrid electric vehicles, electricity generation for utilities, industries and homes, and portable power. Their high efficiency reduces dependence on fossil fuels and their zero emissions do not contribute to global warming. Ergenics' hydrogen storage units offer safe, compact, high purity, portable, and long life storage of hydrogen. They employ Ergenics' Hy-Stor(R) reversible metal hydride alloys which possess the remarkable ability to absorb large quantities of hydrogen at room temperature and can release the hydrogen upon demand at low pressure. Hydrogen storage in a metal hydride alloy is more volume efficient than compressed gas or liquid hydrogen storage, allowing Ergenics' storage units to meet the strict size requirements for portable and remote fuel cell applications. In addition, hydride storage is much safer than compressed gas or liquid because the hydrogen is actually stored as a solid metal. Ergenics' Hy-Stor alloys can be charged and discharged more than 1,000,000 times without degradation. Currently, Ergenics offers six standard and many custom hydrogen storage units ranging in sizes that store from 7 liters to 6,800 liters of hydrogen. Ergenics is a world leader in the development and commercialization of metal hydride alloys and hydride related devices. In addition to offering hydride systems for fuel cell applications, Ergenics is developing advanced rechargeable batteries with high capacity and long life for utility distributed energy storage, electric bicycles and hybrid electric vehicles. Privately owned, Ergenics, Inc. has its headquarters and principal manufacturing operation in northern New Jersey.
