American Honda Continues Record-Setting Sales Streak
TORRANCE, Calif., June 2 -- American Honda continued its
record-setting sales pace in May, setting a new record for the month and
topping 90,000 total vehicles for only the second time ever, according to
sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Total sales of 92,641 were up 18.5 percent from May '97, surpassing the
previous May record of 84,203 set in 1990. Year-to-date American Honda sales
of 398,877 are running 10.6 percent ahead of 1997's all-time record levels.
Honda Division sales of 82,294 also set a May record, shattering the
previous mark of 72,432 set last year by 18.2 percent. The increase was led
by a 35.1 percent jump in Accord sales to 36,142, and new May records for
Civic (32,650 up 18 percent) and CR-V (8,201 up 6.3 percent).
Acura Division sales of 10,347 were up 21 percent, paced by new May
records for the CL luxury sports coupe and TL luxury sedan.
