Eaton to be Named 'Marketing Statesman of the Year'

Eaton to be Named 'Marketing Statesman of the Year' At Sales and Marketing Executives International Convention in Detroit
    DETROIT, June 2 -- The Sales and Marketing Executives of
Detroit (SMED) will host the Sales and Marketing Executives International
(SMEI) annual convention Sept. 25-26, 1998, at the Dearborn Hyatt Regency.
The event will honor Robert Eaton, chairman and CEO of Chrysler Corp., as the
Pinnacle Award winner "Marketing Statesman of the Year."
    The annual SMEI convention provides a forum for new information and
strategies in sales and marketing; the advancement of the sales and marketing
profession; and, the recognition of excellence in sales and marketing.  Each
year, 400-500 senior-level sales and marketing executives from around the
world attend the convention.
    SMEI will honor four other distinguished individuals as Pinnacle Award
winners in the sales and marketing profession at the 1998 convention.  Terence
Adderley, chairman, president and CEO of Kelly Services will receive the
"Excellence in Marketing" award; Dr. Amar Bose, CEO of Bose Corp. has been
named "Tops in Marketing;" Dr. David Cole, director of the Office of the Study
of Automotive Transportation at the University of Michigan will receive the
"Marketing Educator" award; and, Keith Crain, publisher and editorial director
of Automotive News will receive the "Marketing Communicator" award.
    Eaton has been chairman and CEO of Chrysler since 1993.  Prior to joining
Chrysler, Eaton was the president of General Motors Europe.  He is a fellow of
the Society of Automotive Engineers and the Engineering Society of Detroit.
Eaton also is the chairman of Detroit Renaissance and serves on several
boards.
    The theme of the 1998 convention is "People, Information and Technology."
With an eye toward the future, SMEI will offer seminars on such topics as
staffing in the 21st century, virtual organization, the latest in marketing
technology and also host technological demonstrations.
    The convention will kick off Thursday evening, Sept. 24, with a welcome
reception at Carail Museum in Detroit and wrap up with a gala awards banquet
on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Dearborn Hyatt Regency.
