Subaru Announces Best Sales Month for 1998CHERRY HILL, N.J., June 1 -- Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) today announced its best sales month for 1998. For May, Subaru recorded a sales total of 12,280 units, up 28 percent versus May 1997. Overall, year-to-date 1998 totals are up 17 percent over the same period in 1997. May sales represented the fifth consecutive month of sales growth and best May sales month in 10 years. The Legacy model line led sales with 7,512 units posted. The Outback accounted for 3,990 units of the Legacy line-up. The newest Subaru hybrid, the Legacy Sport Utility Sedan, accounted for 371 units sold. Forester had its best sales month ever with 3,288 units posted. Subaru of America, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. of Japan. Headquartered near Philadelphia, the company markets and distributes Subaru vehicles, parts and accessories through a network of nearly 610 franchised dealers across the United States.
