Transcom Engine to Show Its Advanced Natural Gas Vehicle System

Transcom Engine Will Showcase Its Advanced Natural Gas Vehicle System In Cologne
PERTH, Australia, May 26 -- Transcom International
today announced that its affiliated company, Transcom Engine
Corporation, will participate this week in the NGV'98 natural gas vehicles
conference and expo in Cologne, Germany. Transcom will showcase its world
leading Natural Gas Vehicle System (NGVS), an electronic fuel injection and
engine control system for heavy duty vehicles.
The Australian company will feature an advanced turbocharged Renault
MGDR:06.20.45 natural gas engine and a RABA G10-TE190 natural gas engine
fitted with the Transcom NGVS. Both engines, one from Renault Vehicle
Industries of France, the other from RABA Motor Company of Hungary, achieve
the stringent EURO III draft exhaust emission standard.
The Transcom NGVS is the result of over 10 years research and development
costing AUS$40 million, and has received extensive operational testing in
several countries. The system provides "drive by wire" control, allowing the
driver to experience a feel similar to that of driving a diesel vehicle with
no loss of power or risk of engine or gearbox damage.
Transcom Group Managing Director Peter Malone said the NGVS takes the
complexity out of the engine and puts it into the software of the fuel system,
which provides continuous monitoring and correction during engine operation.
"With an annual global commercial vehicle market of around 4 million
vehicles and a world wide trend to natural gas, we believe Transcom Engine is
well placed to capitalize on these opportunities," Mr. Malone declared.
"Our computer controlled fuel injection and engine management system
already has been proven and is in service in city buses in Perth and Canberra,
Australia, and Szeged, Hungary.
"The NGVS is also resulting in a cleaner and healthier environment. Fuel
injection technology using natural gas reduces greenhouse gases, chemicals
that cause smog and other toxins that impact on our health. It also results in
cost savings as natural gas is significantly cheaper than diesel in most parts
of the world.
"We've made a concerted effort to position ourselves as an innovative
company. It's rewarding to see our efforts now pay off with our product being
accepted not just in Australia but by major engine manufacturers around the
world."
