Dana Corporation Changes Engine Products
22 May 1998
Dana Corporation Replaces Muskegon(R) Brand with Perfect Circle(R) Engine ProductsMUSKEGON, Mich., May 22 -- Dana Corporation's Engine Products Group has announced that, effective immediately, the Muskegon(R) piston ring brand name is being retired and replaced by the Perfect Circle(R) brand name. The Muskegon brand name was acquired by Dana in 1988. In recent years, Muskegon ring packs were sold primarily to automotive engine rebuilding shops, while other automotive parts outlets sold rings under the Perfect Circle brand name. Dana Corporation cited numerous benefits of this change: -- As the world's largest manufacturer of piston rings, Dana's Perfect Circle enjoys strong brand recognition nationwide. This recognition is supported by extensive advertising exposure and serves to enhance the image of products that use Perfect Circle brand components. -- The Engine Products Group will continue to supply the highest quality product available, preventing returns due to product defects. Just one example was the recent naming of Dana's Perfect Circle as "1997 Supplier of the Year" by the John Deere Engine Works, the highest honor bestowed on a supplier by Deere. This award was presented to recognize extraordinary levels of quality and order fill. -- Engine rebuilders, machine shops, warehouse distributors, and automotive jobbers will only need to index the Perfect Circle product line. -- Dana's role as a major original equipment supplier of Perfect Circle Engine Products ensures the widest application coverage in the industry. -- The Engine Products Group maintains the largest piston ring manufacturing, packaging and test facilities in North America. This assures maximum order fill and allows Perfect Circle to back it up with the technical expertise to solve the most challenging application problems. To ease the transition and accommodate engine rebuilders who are used to the Muskegon product selection, Dana will continue to offer the top-selling 288 Muskegon ring pack part numbers under the Perfect Circle brand. "The consolidation of former Muskegon components into the Perfect Circle brand umbrella is a natural move for us to make it easier and more convenient for those servicing our vehicles to get the finest components available," said Hugo Ferreira, vice president of the Dana Engine Products Group. "This will insure that engine rebuilders and automotive machine shops are installing original equipment quality from one of the oldest and most respected suppliers in the industry," he noted. The Engine Products Group is part of Dana's Engine Components Strategic Business Unit.
