Paul Scott Lewis and Sir Geoffrey Whalen Join Federal-Mogul Board of DirectorsSOUTHFIELD, Mich., May 20 -- Federal-Mogul Corporation announced today that its shareowners have expanded the board of directors to nine with the addition of Paul Scott Lewis, retired deputy chairman of Tate & Lyle, plc in England and Sir Geoffrey Whalen, retired managing director and deputy chairman of Peugeot Talbot Motor Company plc in England. Lewis and Whalen also served together on the board of directors for T&N plc. Shareowners also overwhelmingly re-elected the current seven directors: John J. Fannon, retired vice chairman of Simpson Paper Company and business consultant; Roderick M. Hills, president and chief executive officer of Hills Enterprises Limited; Antonio Madero, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of SANLUIS Corporacion S.A. de C.V.; Robert S. Miller, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of Waste Management, Inc.; John C. Pope, chairman of MotivePower Industries Inc.; Dr. H. Michael Sekyra, chairman and chief executive officer of C.H. CHEM, a.s. and chairman of the supervisory board of Bohler Uddeholm AG; and Richard A. Snell, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Federal-Mogul Corporation. John J. Fannon, 64, has been a director since 1986 and is chairman of the compensation committee and a member of the pension and the nominating committees. Roderick M. Hills, 67, has been a director since 1977 and is chairman of the nominating committee and a member of the audit, executive and finance, and pension committees. Paul Scott Lewis, 61, is newly elected to the Federal-Mogul board of directors. Lewis is retired deputy chairman of Tate & Lyle, plc in England. Antonio Madero, 60, has been a director since 1994 and is a member of the audit, nominating and compensation committees. Robert S. Miller, Jr., 56, has been a director since 1993 and is chairman of the pension committee and a member of the audit and nominating committees. From September until November, 1996, he served as acting chief executive officer of the corporation. John C. Pope, 49, has been a director since 1987 and is chairman of the audit committee and a member of the compensation, executive and finance, and nominating committees. Dr. H. Michael Sekyra, 56, has been a director since 1991 and is a member of the compensation, nominating, and pension committees. Richard A. Snell, 56, is chairman, chief executive officer and president of Federal-Mogul. Snell joined the board of directors in 1996 and is the only executive member. Snell also serves as chairman of the executive and finance committee and as a member of the pension committee. Sir Geoffrey Whalen, 62, is newly elected to the Federal-Mogul board of directors. Whalen is retired managing director and deputy chairman of Peugeot Talbot Motor Company plc in England. Shareowners also approved the appointment of Ernst & Young as independent accountants to audit the financial statements of the corporation and its consolidated subsidiaries for 1998.
