Network Associates Certified to Protect North American Automotive Industry
Gauntlet Network Encryption Product Receives IPSec
Certification - Demonstrates Ability to Protect Corporate Networks

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 19 -- Network Associates
, formed by the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General
and the acquisitions of Pretty Good Privacy and Trusted Information Systems,
today announced that its Gauntlet Global Virtual Private Network (GVPN) passed
the International Computer Security Association's (ICSA) first-ever Internet
Protocol Security (IPSec) Virtual Private Network (VPN) certification process.
ICSA certification is the global standard for assessing network security
products and will be used by the North American Automotive industry to qualify
VPNs for purchase. By meeting ICSA standards, Network Associates reinforces
its position as the leading provider of network security and management
solutions.
"Companies like Network Associates are paving the way towards common
industry standards," said Robert G. Moskowitz, ICSA's Senior Technical
Director for IPSec. "Today's announcement marks the first time the automotive
industry and others can be assured that ICSA IPSec compliant network security
products work together."
The ICSA certification process is a requirement for participation in the
Automotive Network Exchange (ANX). Created by the Automotive Industry Action
Group (AIAG), a not-for-profit association of North American vehicle
manufacturers and suppliers, ANX is designed to provide the automotive
industry with a robust, global network infrastructure that enables an emerging
set of electronic communications services.
"Due to the competitive nature of the automotive industry, security is a
crucial component for the ANX service," said Karl E. Schohl, ANX business
manager at the AIAG. "We are pleased that Network Associates' Gauntlet
solution has passed the International Computer Security Association's IPSec
Certification Criteria, so that Network Associates can provide ANX subscribers
with the high-performance, standards-based security needed for secure
electronic commerce and data transfer."
"ICSA certification of our products substantiates our efforts to support
leading industry standards," said Peter Watkins, general manager of the Net
Tools Secure Division at Network Associates. "Our ongoing participation with
standards bodies has enabled Network Associates to deliver the industry's
first certified, second-generation virtual private network available
worldwide."
The ICSA IPSec certification ensures products:

    * are interoperable with other ICSA IPSec certified network security
      products;
    * meet the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) requirements for IPSec;
    * complies with the requirements of ICSA cryptography certification,
including criteria addressing algorithms, implementation mistakes and
      black-box testing.
